Coimbatore: Eighty-three-year-old Vethaa Arumugan was rushed to the PSG Hospitals immediately after his family members found him gasping for breath. It didn’t occur to them to call up the hospital to check for the availability of beds, as the only thing that mattered to them was to get him immediate medical help. The hospital staff could do little to find a bed for the patient, who was breathless and on oxygen support, as his RT-PCR results were yet to arrive. That was not the only reason why he had to wait outside. Oxygen beds in the ward for suspected Covid cases was also full. ....
