An Indonesian volunteer returns from a dangerous rescue mission to a remote island where a volcano recently unleashed huge eruptions, cradling an abandoned, emaciated dog covered in burn blisters.But while locals have fled, a team of volunteers travelled to Ruang by boat on daring rescue missions to save abandoned pets from the foot of the volcano that remains at its highest alert level.
AROUND 50 animals were rescued by the Davao de Oro Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) as part of their Animal Rescue Welfare Program following the tragic Masara landslide on the night of February 6, 2024.
NOT only are first responders risking their lives in the search and retrieval efforts in Zone One, Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro, but also personnel from the Provincial Veterinary Office and other volunteer rescuers who are saving domestic animals trapped in the disaster zone.
