Hawks nab suspects for possession of R1.5m worth of abalone in Gqeberha

CAPE TOWN - The case against alleged abalone smugglers arrested in a R9.9 million bust has been remanded for a week.
The matter resumes on 26 May.
The bust was executed by police, the Hawks and fisheries officials.
Officials stopped two vehicles and found 70 boxes containing more than 23,000 units of dried abalone. ....

The police s Andre Traut explains what they found: [Police] Members conducted an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the incident when they came across a huge quantity of abalone with an expected street value of R900,000 and abalone drying equipment values at around R60,000 in the house.
