Diamond City may get a UPSC prelims centre | Surat News

Surat: Every year thousands of civil service aspirants from South Gujarat travel to Ahmedabad or Mumbai to appear for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams. Now, the Surat district administration is trying to get a UPSC prelims centre allotted to the Diamond city.
According to officials of the Surat district administration, a team from UPSC is likely to visit the city soon. The team will examine the available infrastructure and if the facilities match the requirements there are bright chances that a centre might be allotted to the city.
Currently, Ahmedabad and Rajkot have prelims centres. For mains exam Ahmedabad is the only centre in the state. Currently, a large number of students have to travel to Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Mumbai for the exams. ....

SURAT: Even as the number of Covid-19 cases are decreasing, the Surat district administration is gearing up to tackle a possible third wave.
District collector Aayush Oak has directed all medical practitioners to make a flu corner to screen every patient having suspected Covid-19 symptoms and submit details of such people with the health officials.
The circular issued by the collector warns of legal action against doctors who don’t follow the directive.
Those doctors not adhering to the notification will be booked under IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and section 269 (unlawful or negligent act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life). ....
