Remdesivir not for home use, meant for hospitalised patients: Government | India News


NEW DELHI: Remdesivir should be given only to hospitalised Covid-19 patients on oxygen and must not be used by patients in home setting, health officials said underlining that it is an ‘investigational drug’ and not to be procured by patient from a chemist shop.
Officials also raised concerns over people buying the drug from chemists and described as “disturbing” the reports of clamour for Remdesivir in various states.
There is no shortage of the drug if used appropriately, particularly after exports have been stopped for the time being, officials said.
“There is no question of use of Remdesivir in patients in home setting. Under no circumstances is it to be used in the home setting. It is included in the Covid-19 management protocol as an “investigational drug”. It needs to be used in the hospital, in people on oxygen. It is not to be procured by a patient from a chemist shop. It is disturbing what is happening,” NITI Aayog member-health Dr VK Paul ....

NEW DELHI: What’s common between Thai radial tyres for buses and lorries and Chinese caustic soda? They are among a whole host of items on which the revenue department has not imposed antidumping duty, despite the directorate general of trade remedies (DGTR) recommending action.
The list of such items is only growing by the day, with industry estimates suggesting that there are 25-30% of the products on which the DGTR’s recommendation has been rejected during the last 18-20 months. DGTR is the agency housed in the commerce department, In contrast, during the earlier months, revenue department’s strike rate in acting on DGTR’s recommendations was as high as 90%.
