Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande emphasized the need for India to develop indigenous capabilities to address future security challenges, as warfare has evolved into new domains like space, cyber, and information systems. He highlighted the importance of technology infusion and self-reliance, noting that no country will share advanced technology. Gen Pande also mentioned the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the Covid-19 pandemic on supply chains, stressing the need for self-sufficiency in critical technologies.
The Indian Army is set to enhance its engagement with the industry by expanding its internal design bureau and creating new structures for testing and innovation. The Army Design Bureau (ADB) will be expanded, and new cells will be established for greater interaction with the industry. The army plans to set up test bed brigades to try out new equipment and is considering creating an adversarial force for wargaming future challenges. These initiatives aim to promote innovation and develop futuristic capabilities, focusing on self-reliance (Atmanirbharta).
