moderator: now, the combined resources of kesq tv, the desert sun and tbs local news present your vote, 2014. the congressional debate with incumbents raul ruiz and challenger brian nestande. be macadamia welcome to the first and only debate between the candidates for the 36th congressional district. i am karen devine with kesq tv your moderator tonight. dr. raul ruiz and his republican challenger brian nestande take your bow. the emergency room physician, voters elected to congress in 2012 defeated longtime republican barry bo know. mr. nestande helped elect billie congressman sonny bono worked as chief of staff. he also served as chief of staff for congressman berry bo know. a term california assemblyman. alongside me to matter my two colleagues here to the left desert sun political reporter, erica felci. to the right it may come longtime anchorman, kris long. the three of us will be asking questions tonight. candidates did not receive a copy of those questions. to the
spirit that was a good analysis. my first job in journalism was middle east times in cairo, and we used to have a layout program. and so is young journalists, we would sometimes to no end try and depict reality as best we could on the pages of the newspaper. to the middle east credit they allowed us to do so. so we put everything on the page and write our words and put graphics and so on. but there was this intense moment where we had to see if it would work or not. there was this button cold snap to grid. what you laid out on the page which depicted really didn t match the grid, the design looks at you and says we can t do. but in the end i found that the only way we ever published the paper was we had to adjust the grid. there was no way around it. if you didn t, you didn t end up actually solving the problem. these problems are ones that humans have been dealing with for millennia. it is normal for political entities to grow and to contract and to break into pieces. i do
you just have to ask yourself this question, does it matter? do we have unique perspectives, the unique voice of people who were born and raised in upstate new york, in the district court s will that be will certainly congress edges becoming one of the group of democrats or a group of republicans were either individual voice will be totally lost. my supposition is green in congress we noticeable. national meet will pay attention. talk to issues that matter to workers. woolf: if you walk down the street in elizabethtown and ask almost anybody they re likely to know me. that s not just because of my for congress. my family has been there since i did safety. as i said in my opening my father s ashes are there. i ve been there in every season for years and years. i rebuilt my home there. the kind of work i ve done to the 20 in a north country sets me so part from a republican opponent. community work, conservation work, helping to create jobs. it seems kind of come on glad matt w
