Marion’s lost stone tablet comes home WAREHAM – It’s hard not to imagine that Marion would be pleased. Marion Pierce Carter died September 9, 1946 at 81 and is buried next to her husband, Miles, in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Attleboro. She was an avid genealogist and founder of the Attleboro Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1901. It’s one of the nation’s oldest chapters. The DAR was founded in 1890. One of the first official acts of the brand-new chapter was to buy the historic “Peck House” in Attleboro, built in 1723. The chapter voted in January, 1902, to repair and establish the Peck House as its permanent home. ....
Five Things for Dedham, Norwood and Westwood for May 20-27 Wicked Local 1 The Aaron Guild Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be holding its annual Garage/Estate Sale on May 22 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Barlow Lane in Westwood (the first house on the right on Barlow Lane, just off Route 109). For sale will be household items, jewelry, kitchen utensils, bric-a-brac, toys, books, tools, small furniture, and estate items. Come early for the best selection. The proceeds will be used to support DAR’s patriotic, historic and educational endeavors, such as the Good Citizen Award given to four deserving high school seniors from the area who were chosen as Good Citizens by their classmates and teachers.
