Austin police arrest suspect for fatal shooting in Northwest Austin

Aaron David Garza has been charged with murder and has been booked into the Williamson County Jail.
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department (APD) has made an arrest in a fatal shooting in Northwest Austin earlier this month. Aaron David Garza, 18, has been arrested for the July 12 homicide of Joshua Cooper on Missel Thrush Drive.
Garza was arrested and has been booked into the Williamson County Jail.
According to police, Austin 911 received a call for shots fired in the 10200 block of Missel Thrush Drive shortly after 10 30 p.m. on Monday, July 12. Additional calls also came in reporting screaming following the shots being fired.
The Austin Police Department (APD) has made an arrest in the July 12 homicide of Joshua Cooper on Missel Thrush Dr. On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, a warrant was issued for Aaron David Garza charging him with murder. Mr. Garza was arrested by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force and was booked in at the Williamson County Jail.
On Monday, July 12, 2021 at approximately 10:38 p.m., Austin 911 received a call in reference to shots being fired. Additional calls reported screaming following the shots being fired. APD officers arrived on scene and discovered a male laying in the street in front of 10241 Missel Thrush Dr. The male victim appeared to have been shot and was unresponsive. APD officers along with neighboring residents attempted life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) arrived. ATCEMS took over but were unsuccessful in reviving Mr. Cooper. He was pronounced deceased at 11:05 p.m. on the scene.
