In 1825 N. Longworth for one dollar added by a deed of gift fifty feet in the rear of the first lot [of the first Jewish cemetery in Cincinnati], which increased it to twenty-five by one hundred. In 1836 the congregation purchased the adjoining lot of twenty-five feet from N. Longworth, which comprises the entire lot. This ground was used for twenty-eight years until December 1849, when it was finally closed, although not quite filled.

Mr. S. N. Pike has made the sensible and pleasing decision to change his beautiful hall in this city into a still more beautiful and attractive opera-house. With characteristic energy, he commenced the work on Tuesday last a few hours after his arrival in the city, and he intends to have the alterations completed in six weeks, say by June 1. Thus Cincinnati is for a second time indebted to Mr. Pike for an opera-house, an improvement the city never needed more urgently ....
