Hyderabad: Nizam-era Madrasa-I-Aliya might fall any time soon

Hyderabad: Nizam-era Madrasa-I-Aliya might fall any time soon By Nihad Amani|   Updated: 27th January 2021 1:18 pm IST We had not just received education but also attained a character, said an alumni of Madrassa-e-Aliya. Hyderabad:  The historically significant Madrasa-I-Aliya, which is almost 150 years old, bears silent testimony to the state government’s apathy towards the city’s heritage. The beautiful structure was supposedly one of Hyderabad’s best schools is now left to its fate. Madrasa-I-Aliya was founded by Mir Turab Ali Khan (Salar Jung 1, who was the prime minister between the fourth and sixth Nizams of Hyderabad) in 1872. The school for royals boasts of alumni like the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan and his grandson Mukkaram Jah.

Madrasa-i-Aaliya to be razed to make way for a new building

Updated: Share Article AAA The 1872-school for former royal children Madrasa-i-Aaliya is set to be razed to make for a new building. The old building now called Aliya High School for Boys has been abandoned in stages and only the library, Principal’s chamber and laboratory are functioning from the continental-style heritage building. “There have been a lot of rumours about a new building from the time parts of it were abandoned. But a few weeks ago, officials came and measured the building confirming our fears that this building will be demolished,” said a teachers’ union official when asked about the development. Every year, the school gets a notice from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation about the building’s stability. Two years ago, the high ceiling in the right wing of the building collapsed in a heap after the timber rafters gave way.
