Phrase that it s conceivable. i don t think it s conceivable we ll never know simply because if you look at the history of aircraft investigations, the number of incidents where you never know are very small and they are getting fewer as the sophistication of the investigation grows even more. i cannot emphasize enough to you, don, that both boeing has an interest in this, the entire 777 fleet of over 1,000 aircraft have an interest in this. go back to air france 447. they want back out to search for that plane four times. admittedly they were on their last attempt when they found the aircraft. but that was the a-330. but weren t there clues about what happened to that plane. there is absolutely nothing now. at least there was data sent out before it crashed. ....
Disagreeing. i m disagreeing with your phrase that it s conceivable. i don t think it s conceivable we ll never know simply because if you look at the history of aircraft investigations, the number of incidents where you never know are very small and they are getting fewer as the sophistication of the investigation grows even more. i cannot emphasize enough to you, don, that both boeing has an interest in this, the entire 777 fleet of over 1,000 aircraft have an interest in this. go back to air france 447. they want back out to search for that plane four times. admittedly they were on their last attempt when they found the aircraft. but that was the a-330. but weren t there clues about what happened to that plane. there is absolutely nothing now. ....
Can t tell what you re doing withouto throw needs to be more of a manual feel for the pilot. is that the conclusion of the investigators looking into this crash? well, i know it s snag you re looking at. personally, having been in the cockpit of the a330 at night, i can tell you that the ability for the other pilot to see the side stick, and it s to the right hand or lefthand side of the pilot, it would be almost impossible to see in a dark cockpit, anyway, so i honestly don t believe that it might be a slight factor but it s not the major factor or design flaw. megyn: what is the responsibility of the captain? this captain goes on a scheduled nap. i guess they get naps, because these a long flights and they had two other pilots sitting there at the controls of the plane, but if you look at the transcript of what went on between twoes copilots it is chilling, talking about how they said utright, i don t ....
That leave us? let s talk with peter gold, former managing director of the national transportation safety board and helped investigate a number of well known aviation accidents. so peter, they have gone through the preliminary reading, i guess, of the data they found of the black boxes, and apparently they didn t find anything that says to them oh, there s a big problem with the a330. is that what i m to take from this? well, that s what the leak says, that they had a look at the dat yarks there was nothing that jumped out that said that the planes mechanically or electronically had malfunctioned and that will, again, put the arrow directly on the flight crew. jon: okay, because apparently that crew, we re looking at the black boxes now, which are orange, obviously yes. jon: the flight crew apparently chose to fly through a thunderstorms that every well, that other flight crews in that area had been avoiding. is that right? that s correct. and they ve got a two-hour recordi ....
shepard: passengers on board a flight over southeast asia are now telling their stories after the plane s engine caught fire right in the middle of the flight earlier this morning. it happened on a trip from singapore to the indonesian capital of jakarta. we re told 20 minutes into the thing, there were two sharp bangs, and then violent shaking all over the jet before the pilots announced we re turning around. then the passengers say all the lights went out. they smelled smoke in the cabin. it then filled up with smoke. as the story goes, just about everybody on board started praying together. trace gallagher with the details on this story. trace, if the passengers were sitting there praying, what were they doing in the cockpit? the reason the plane was shocking so violently, shep, in the cockpit that stall warning was going off, an indication there s simply not enough air flow going over the wings to keep the plane flying. so what the pilots did is they shut down the engine that ....
