New Delhi, July 25: India s tally of Covid-19 infections rose by 39,742 over 24 hours to reach 3,13,71,901, while 535 more people succumbed to the virus during the same period taking the death toll to 4,20,551, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.
The number of active cases in the country currently stands at 4,08,212.
A decline of 765 cases was recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload over the past one day. ....

Uttar Pradesh population draft bill proposes two-child policy, stringent measures for violators

Uttar Pradesh is set to introduce a two-child norm and anyone violating it will be barred from applying for or getting promotion in government jobs, receiving any kind of government subsidy and contesting local body elections, according to a draft of the proposed population control bill.
The Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission (UPSLC) has said the provisions are part of the draft Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilisation and Welfare) Bill, 2021.

The UPSLC website says: “The State Law Commission, UP, is working on control, stabilisation and welfare of the population of the state and has prepared a draft bill.”
Suggestions have been invited from the public to improve the draft bill and they have to be submitted by July 19. ....

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday unveiled the new population policy 2021-30, on the occasion of World Population Day.
Through the proposed policy, efforts will be made to increase the accessibility of contraceptive measures issued under the Family Planning Programme and provide a proper system for safe abortion and on the other hand, through improved health facilities, efforts will be made for population stabilization by providing accessible solutions to impotence/infertility and reducing the infant and maternal mortality rate.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that bringing the bill is necessary to control and stabilize the population to promote sustainable development with more equitable distribution. ....
