The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigated 11 workplace deaths in South Dakota in 2020, according to to the organization.
Four of the deaths were pandemic-related, OSHA said in a news release. Half of the workplace deaths in 2020 are still open, according to public case reports.
The workplace deaths this year include four construction-related death investigations, four meatpacking plant deaths, an agricultural death, a towing company death and a healthcare death.

Nelsen Construction worker in Rapid City died after a trench collapsed and he fell into a pit alongside another worker. He died at the scene while the other victim survived, according to the Rapid City Journal. The OSHA investigation started on Dec. 22, 2020 and closed the same day. ....
