What council plans to do about diseased Platypus Beach

Council is recommending people stay out of the water at Platypus Beach almost a fortnight after dangerous bacteria was detected there.
A Mackay Regional Council statement issued on Friday said ongoing tests showed little change to moderate E.coli and Intestinal Enterococci levels.
“Council recommends that members of the public don’t swim in the area,” the statement said.
“Anyone swimming in the area does so at their own risk.”

Council debunks suspicion over Farleigh truck depot

A petition to stop a Farleigh truck depot has been dismissed after it was found no development applications had been submitted for the site.
About 70 residents had objected to what they suspected was a truck stop being built at 4 Christoe St citing concerns for children s safety with the location near Farleigh State School.
But a Mackay Regional Council meeting on Wednesday confirmed there had been zero development applications lodged or approved at the address.

Mackay residents may notice a slight discolouration to their drinking water following ongoing heavy rainfall in the region.
A Mackay Regional Council spokeswoman said council was aware of instances of water discolouration across the region, adding the extended rain period had made river water dirtier and more difficult to treat.
She said council has had to supplement the supply with bore water from the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant.
“The bore water has a higher iron concentration than the river water and customers may be noticing a slight brown or cloudy discolouration in their water supply,” the spokeswoman said. ....
