Flow through the weekend. swing into the ohio valley. spreading plenty of rain. especially in the darker green shade here. many spots, six to eight inches of the rain. that will dent some of the drought and bring localized flash flooding. thank you to meteorologist jim dickey live at accuweather. as folks are watching the storm coverage here, you can see that the city of new orleans proper made it out okay. the rebuilt levees there have worked. what you are seeing, suburban, new orleans, sparsely populated areas not part of the federal levee system, levees not built or maintained at all by the army corps of engineers. a lot of times, they re privately built or privately funded, so they re not the same lefrl of protection. those are some areas that got hit hardest yesterday. areas that were okay in katrina but got swamped yesterday. all the new fortified levees are working but they pushed the water somewhere else. the water had to go somewhere. you are seeing the scenes, plaquemines p ....

States are without power. rescuers risked dangerous conditions to save people stranded by the floodwaters. our focus obviously has been on evacuation today and to get people out of harm s way. reporter: despite their house being underwater, this father and son are being called heroes. oh, we have rescued a lot of people. and saw a lot of things that you never thought you d see. reporter: anxious moments outside a nursing home. medical vehicles and school buses waiting to evacuate patients. as isaac takes its time, moving across the gulf, officials have issued new mandatory evacuation orders for those still at risk for flooding. i would tell anybody, anybody that wants to stay, doesn t want to leave, i think it s a real bad idea. everybody s leaving? yeah. reporter: isaac is much weaker than hurricane katrina, which crippled new orleans exactly seven years ago. the upgraded flood system did fine, but officials say they will breach one of the levees to ....
