Ahmed Mohiuddin, popularly known as ‘Saleembhai,’ passed away on Sunday morning while Asad Shameem breathed his last on Friday night. The Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT) mourned the loss of its two much-loved members, while a bigger outpouring of grief is bound to follow when word gets around of their demise. “The first wave stripped Shameem of his job (at Etemaad), the second claimed his life,” was a poignant post on social media by a friend about the sports in-charge of the soon-to-be-launched Adaab Telangana. ....

Joseph Antony If the sixties laid the foundations and the eighties consolidated EMESA’s endeavours to place inland sailing on a firm footing, the new millennium saw it scale new heights in terms of facilities and infrastructure. The quality of its manpower too touched world standards, not far behind some of its sailors who shone in international competition. Although the EME Sailing Association (EMESA) has off-site centres in Chennai, Bhopal, Mumbai and Goa, the jewel in its crown should be Secunderabad and not without reason. A recent innovation here is a metallic Mexican style stack that can house 42 boats, hulls, sails et al. ....

(Photo: EMESA) From its fledgling steps in the swinging sixties, the EME Sailing Association in Hyderabad grew with such confidence that by the mid-80s it became the Laser class’ custodian in the country, forming the Laser Class Association of India (LCAI) in 1985. Helmed in three rigs, viz; Standard, Radial and 4.7, with variations in the size of its sails, the boat attracts children/teenagers in 4.7, youth in the Radial and full grown men in the Standard. Worldwide, it’s the largest class going by sheer numbers and is most keenly contested in the Olympics. ....
