Boost for Aberdeen as Flybe snaps up three daily slots to London

Air passengers in the north-east have been given a boost after newly-resurrected Flybe snapped up 36 weekly flights to London.
The airline has bought the slots from British Airways, along with 50 weekly journeys – 25 departures and 25 arrivals – from Edinburgh Airport to Heathrow.
Earlier this year administrators for Flybe completed the sale of its business and assets to a new firm.
The Exeter-headquartered Flybe Ltd collapsed in March 2020, but administrators at restructuring firm EY, have now completed a deal with will also allow an unspecified number of jobs transfer to a new company affiliated with investment adviser Cyrus Capital. ....

Collapsed UK airline Flybe to fly again


FLYBE, which had a major presence at Southampton Airport, will return to the skies after administrators said they had completed the sale of the collapsed airline.
Thyme Opco has bought Flybe’s business and assets, and plans to resume flights this summer, although on a smaller scale than before.
Having struggled for years, the Exeter-based carrier was pushed into administration in March 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic destroyed large parts of the travel market.
It resulted in the loss of 2,400 jobs across the country.
The firm had bases at UK airports such as Aberdeen, Belfast City, Manchester and Southampton, and flew the most UK domestic routes between airports outside London. ....

Deal means Southampton airport mainstay Flybe will fly again


Rumours of collapse had been circulating while the final flights were in the air.
Yesterday (Wednesday) an asset purchase agreement, which began in October, was finalised.
Under the deal, Thyme Opco will be renamed Flybe Limited.
Simon Edel, an administrator at EY, said: “Completion of the sale of Flybe is positive news for local communities previously served by Flybe.
“The launch of a new Flybe will enhance regional connectivity across the UK and create new job opportunities within the airline industry.
“Flybe stands to make an important contribution to local economies as they rebuild after the pandemic and as restrictions ease to allow an increase in air travel.” ....
