(PNA file photo) MANILA-There are over 300,000 defective ballots that will be reprinted, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday. Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said a total of 372,878 ballots did not pass the thorough testing on the election documents. In a message to the media, Garcia said the number is 0.58 percent or 372,878 of the total number of the 67,442,616 official ballots that have been printed for both local and overseas voters. The rejected ballots are those with smudge, not perfectly cut, among others. "We will first complete the reprinting and the printing of other forms, then the destruction will follow. We will issue a notice," Garcia said. Meanwhile, the Comelec also released the number of registered voters in the country by sex. Comelec's Election Records and Statistics Division showed that out of the 65,721,230 eligible voters in the country, 33,644,237 are women while 32,076,993 are men. Of the total, Region 4-A has the highest number of voters with 9,192,205, with 4,852,037 of them females. The National Capital Region (NCR) came in second with 7,301,393, (3,976,902 females and 3,324,491 males). Quezon City has the most registered voters in NCR with 1,403,895 (774,898 females and 628,997 males) followed by Manila with 1,112,081 (590,972 females and 521,109, male). After NCR are Region 3-Central Luzon with 7,289,055 (3,767,563 females and 3,521,492 males); Region 7-Central Visayas, 5,202,289 (2,665,418 females and 2,536,871, male); and Region 6-Western Visayas, 5,206,305 (2,550,639 females and 2,475,666 males). Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said as of Monday, a total of 17,502,631 ballots have been printed out of the 65,721,230 ballots to be printed. The figure represents the ballots for six regions as well as those that will be used for overseas and local absentee voting. A total of 1,868,798 ballots have been printed for Caraga; 2,298,930 for Zamboanga Peninsula; 3,060,485, Northern Mindanao; 3,236,251, Davao region; 2,606,492, Soccsksargen and 2,588,193 for Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
