MANILA - The Department of Health on Sunday recorded 870 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and 1,433 more recoveries. From 49,374 active cases the day before, the tally is down to 48,793 active cases, of which 44,131 are mild, 2,693 are moderate, 401 are asymptomatic, 1,279 are severe, and 289 are critical. The figure is slightly higher than the 899 infections reported on Dec. 29, 2021 the last time the country saw three-digit daily new cases. DOH sees decline in hospital admissions, new Covid-19 cases

In a message to reporters, the DOH noted the intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate nationwide is 30 percent as of February 22 which is lower than the 51 percent as of January 22. To date, 29 percent of 3,800 ICU beds, 25 percent of 20,500 isolation beds, 18 percent of 13,900 ward beds, and 16 percent of 3,000 ventilators are used by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.
