Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to devices that could be controlled via acoustic vibration. A device could be trained to understand that a user tapping their fingers on a desk in a certain rhythm translates to a command for answer call and activate speaker. The tapping aspect of the patent was introduced with the iPhone 12 and referred to as Back Tap.
In another example, Apple states that if the device is playing a song, a double-tap on a table-top may be interpreted by the device as a skip or next song command, but a triple-tap on the table-top may be interpreted as a repeat song or back command. ....
TSMC Announced strong Q4 Financials and their intent to Invest up to $28 Billion in 2021to expand its Technological Lead
On Monday Patently Apple posted a report titled Apple s Chip Partner TSMC to report their Financials on Thursday and Analysts are expecting a strong Quarter due to iPhone 12+. On cue, TSMC held their financial conference earlier today and released a press release that supported the forecast issued in our Monday report that consolidated revenue of 361.532 billion yuan, an annual increase of 14%. In US dollars, fourth quarter revenue was $12.68 billion, which increased 22.0% year-over-year and increased 4.4% from the previous quarter.
In the fourth quarter, shipments of 5-nanometer accounted for 20% of total wafer revenue; 7-nanometer and 16-nanometer accounted for 29% and 13% respectively. Advanced technologies, defined as 16-nanometer and more advanced technologies, accounted for 62% of total wafer revenue. ....
