elections are the heart of our democracy. our founding fathers devised a simple way to remove a president if you disagree with him. it s called an election. and we have one coming up in less than a year. let s let the people decide this next november and i yield back. gentleman yields back. gentleman from new york. madam speaker, i now yield one minute to the gentle lady from michigan. gentle lady is recognized for one minute. thank you. i rise today in support of impeachment. i learned so much every single day from my residents at home. their common sense and understanding of what is right and wrong is centered on why they oppose any person using the most powerful position in the world for personal gain. we honor our veterans in this chamber almost on a daily basis. but do we ever follow their lead? where we serve the people of the united states and uphold the constitution, not as republicans or democrats, but as americans.
we should learn from their sense of duty and ....

charge. the truth is in the history of this republic, there s never been a single party fraudulent impeachment process deployed against a president like the one that s being used against donald trump. that s what s unprecedented here. it s not the claim that a president doesn t want to turn over witnesses or documents. that, as we ve said many times today, is actually quite common. and by the way, let s remember it needs to be noted again that president trump has consistently cooperated with this congress in fulfilling its oversight you are listening to one of the many hours of today s very historic house judiciary committee hearing on the articles of impeachment against president donald trump. our live continuing coverage will take place over this hour and further hours as needed. but we want to let you know how we re going to cover this. we re keeping an eye on this hearing. we have reason to believe there could be a vote on the current amendment soon. the committee s ob ....

says, you can go to work. it s important to remember that the facts are clear. no president has ever, ever obstruct the congress in the manner that we have seen from president trump. will the gentleman yield? in a moment. it s always important to make sure that the facts are clear and that we don t muddy the waters by suggesting something that is so unprecedented that we have never before in the history of our country, just somehow part and parcel of the way things work around here. they don t. we know it and our friends on the other side of the aisle know it. the american people know it, but mr. johnson is right, sometimes it s important to remind them of that. will the gentleman yield for questions? i just wanted a postscript to underscore the very important
point that mr. deutsch is making here. article one of the constitution, that gives representatives the sole power of impeachment. that gives the senate the sole power of trial. united states versus nixon, the sup ....

charges brought by the house. i believe these documents are also of great importance to making sure senators have the information necessary to make a fully informed decision, this terribly weighty decision. the house has built a very strong case against the president. maybe that s why leader mcconnell doesn t seem to want witnesses, at least not agree to them now. maybe that s why the president is afraid, because the house case is so strong, that they don t want witnesses that might corroborate it. the evidence the house put together includes public testimony given under oath by numerous senior officials appointed by president trump. these are trump 57.teas we re calling, not some partisan democratic.
some republican senators have said that, while the charges are serious, they haven t seen enough evidence to make a decision. that s one of the reasons i propose subpoenas for these witnesses for these documents, all directly relevant, from officials who have yesterday to testify ....

last word. the gentleman is recognized. i yield to the ranking member. the gentle lady from california misstieated somethin that i addressed head on last night. undersecretary stated this was perspective money, it was not interfering and dealing with this issue. for those of us who have been in a war, people die in a war zone. this money did not cause that. thank you, reclaiming my time. mr. chairman, the biggest difference in the clinton impeachment and this one is that president clinton committed a crime, perjury. this president isn t even accused of committing a crime. the constitution is pretty clear on what constitutes an impeachable defense, treason, bribery and other high crimes and misdemeanors. it s not, or whatever else nancy pelosi and adam schiff deem impeachable. i think we can all agree that no president should abuse the powers of his or her office, just like the chairman of the house committee shouldn t abuse
the powers of his office to obtain and publish ....
