i want to bring in mark preston to talk about with what all of this means. i guess in a way mark, we knew that things were partisan. that s not surprising. but if you look at how pew researchers measure this, 48 different ways of measuring how we feel about politics over the years, and they find that we re more divided than ever. almost double over the past 25 years. why? you know suzanne, talk about a comprehensive study that pew has done now, you know, there s a lot of reasons. and what s interesting is that it shows that not only are we more divided politically but also seeing a growing middle. you know, a grow withing number of folks not aligning themselves entirely with the democratic party or the republican party. i think what you see is frustration out there right now on how to lead forward. i think you might be able to tie in the fact that social media has become so prevalent in helping organize people, you know, ten years ago we didn t have facebook or twitte ....

captions by vitac www.vitac.com we begin in wisconsin where voters have three more hours to cast ballots in an effort to recall their republican governor scott walker and replace him with the democratic mayor tom barrett. both parties see it as a potential weather vane for november s election. the exit polls are fascinating to begin with, number one and number two show a very close race and how polarized and partisan the electorate is. we mentioned governor walker s efforts to limit collective bargaining rights, strongly disapprove of the efforts, 38% of those voting today strongly days prove but let s come to the other end, 37% strongly approve, that tells you why we think this is going to be a close race as we go through, the others in the middle there. that s the defining issue in the race. look at the electorate again today another close divide, 35% of those voting today are democrats, 33% are republicans, we get that to highlight, 32% of the electorate today ....

Rights. the result of tuesday s vote will also be an early indicator of the political climate in the badger state ahead of the general election. so far, the race is turning out to be the most expensive in wisconsin election history with 63.5 million dollars already spent. the majority by governor walker. both candidates are receiving funds from outside of the state. nearly 2/3 of walker s $30.5 million have been from donors outside of wisconsin. a quarter of barrett s funds have been from out of state. overall, walker has outraised barrett by a ratio of 7.5 to 1. according to a recent marquette university poll, walker leads barrett by seven points, 52% to 45%. we ll be covering that closely over the next couple of days. elizabeth warren is now officially the democratic nominee for the senate seat once held by the late ted kennedy. warren won an overwhelming majority of the votes at the massachusetts democratic convention on saturday, taking ....
