One affecting all those black sea ports not allowing ukrainian ships and other ships to get the grain out to the global market pnd and therefore that was the impetus of that deal. but as we ve heard from president zelenskyy, the deal has not been going very well. there was anticipated 20 million tons of grain expected to be exported under that deal and it has only been about 9.1 million tons so if a. russia complains that much has gone for the first world and not the third world. but i think what we re seeing as well is pressure on ukraine, pressure on its allies and global partners to pressure ukraine to agree to president putin s terms of peace which is a complete annexation of those four regions of ukraine, which categorically ukraine says won t happen. so there is a bigger political picture behind this, but there is a knock-onn ismknock-on impa ....
The third world, it s mostly going to first world countries. ukrainians have been saying that russia hasn t been keeping good on its promises here. i think take a step back, even, you begin to see a bigger picture which is what we ve heard indications of coming from president zelenskyy s office. and that is that russia is trying to create many points of pressure, whether it s threatening the potential of nuclear aggression, whether it s cutting off electricity supplies in the country here, now this, to try to pressure ukraine into negotiations by trying to garner enough world opinion to put pressure on ukraine to make ukraine capitulate and sign up to russia s demands. so the grain deal at the moment, nine ships went out yesterday, there are ten standing by to come and go today. none have left. the grain deal when it was struck three months ago was expected to move 20 million tons of grain. in that time it only moved about 9.1 million tons. ....
With ukraine. that was the only way to make this work. it was anticipated when the first ships began sailing back the beginning of august that 20 million tons of grain would be shipped out of the country. well, three months later it s only been 9.1 million tons of grain. ukrainians have been blaming that slow output on the russians. this was supposed to go to the third world. most of it is ending up going to the first world. that doesn t seem to be borne out by the statistics. that s been the narrative the last couple of weeks. it has looked like russia was going to pull out and not re-sign and re-up this deal. they are blaming it, though, on an overnight attack. they say they were attacked in crimea, which they are occupying, by the way. they say they were they are targeted by ukrainian military led by british specialists. the ukrainians denied it. the british denied it. ....
After the deal was struck, the anticipation was about 20 million tons of grain could be shipped out of ukraine to these third world and other countries. now, what we know has happened during this period, barely half has been exploited. 9.1 million tons, 403 ships have come in here. ukrainian officials has been saying russia has been slowing up the way the grain deal is working. russia has been complaining and saying this grain is not going to the right places, not going to the third world, it s going to the first world. what s interesting about this deal in the first place is the only or one of the only places that russia agreed to allow ukraine to get out of the country, remember russia precipitated all of this by starting the world. one of the only reasons they agreed is they were given sanctions relief. what happened overnight last night, russia is saying is the reason for the suspension. ....
The ukrainians said the russians have been dragging their feet. the russians are saying share not sure they woul with this grain deal. so far some 405 ships have been involved in the deal moving 9.1 million tons, which is less than half of what was originally anticipated. but what precipitated this showdown by russia today in crimea, occupied by russia, there were explosions in the port area there today. russia is saying those explosions were aboard some of its ships. it s blaming ukraine for what it calls a terrorist attack and saying that the attack was actually led by british specialists. now, ukraine is saying this is another fiction that s been created by russia, much along the lines of the previous frictions it said it created. there are a couple of things to look at when we step back and ....
