hurdle right now in biden s mind is what this is going to do to his family? i ve been asking joe biden and his team about running for president since election day, 2012. obviously he passed on that with the unusual death of his son. i ve been asking what s different now that wasn t then? his engagement in the process is light years ahead of last time but taking it much more seriously. conversations are much more serious. but the same thing in 2016 is true now but in a very different way. let s talk about what of the family is ready after such an emotional loss. it s about what happens in this environment when president trump has shown he s willing to go anywhere to attack his opponents. they ve been doing drills, what happens when trump tweets and his conversations with top democrats, potential donors. he s raising the issue himself.
necessi they worry when the unemployment rate is low. poverty is bumeilt into capitalism. they try to blame it on the folks that are impoverished. one way they do that is through the racist tropes. the opposite voice is that when black folks are trying to pretend that they re white over the phone is different than just regular cold switching because you may be trying to hide the fact that you re black because you re talking to folks that have this built in racism. and you want to you know, make a sale. let me ask you about the politics. you wrote this screen play in 2012. obviously we were in a different political time then. did you have to make adjustments to the current political environment before this film made it to the screen? yeah. so i wrote this. i finished writing in 2012.
the polling error. they say there were machine issues early on. they have lines and they re trying to keep the polls open in this county. 2.8%, about 3% of the state s population. why are democrats saying keep it open? let s go back in history. here in 2012, durham county, 76% for the democrat, president obama. 23% for mitt romney. if you go back to 2008 when president obama carried the state pretty much the same. you pull out to the map here. that s 2008. go back to 2012. obviously this area of the state, the raleigh/durham area is absolutely critical in this battleground state. durham in particular. they re in court trying to keep them open. this is what we re going to watch all night. this has become florida was the closest election in 2012. demographically, north carolina is probably the most closely contested battleground state. we expect florida and north carolina to be two of our most competitive areas tonight. wade county here, raleigh/durham
donald trump. president obama actually lost north carolina to mitt romney by two points in 2012. obviously every vote counts. that was the focus of the first lady s remarks today. she went after donald trump and his allegation that the election is rigged. take a listen. if hillary doesn t win this election, that will be on us. it will be because we did not stand with her. it will be because we did not vote for her. and that is exactly what her opponent is hoping will happen. that s the strategy. to make this election so dirty and ugly that we don t want any part of it. so when you hear folks talking about a global conspiracy and saying that this election is rigged, understand that they are trying to get you to stay home. they are trying to convince you
republican county in a general election republican candidates are going to get 80, 90% of the votes here. this is heavily evangelical christian. this was the backbone of his victory in 2012. obviously ted cruz has pitched his campaign heavily in this area, but one of donald trump s top supporters is from this part of the state. he has been active here. if donald trump is holding his own up here or winning up here, that is a great sign for donald trump tomorrow night and a very troubling sign for ted cruz. sort of along the mississippi river here in the eastern part of the state down to davenport. these two old working class cities, the characteristics of these cities in these areas, blue collar, catholic heavily roman catholic. this is a working class area in iowa. it was for romney and a little bit of paul in 2012. santorum did not do that well here. the profile of these voters,
