Cebu City police personnel to join absentee voting

(File photo) CEBU CITY - Almost 500 uniformed and non-uniformed personnel of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will participate in the two-day absentee voting here, a ranking police official said Tuesday. Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, said in a presser that a total of 458 of the 1,200-strong police force in this city but are residents of different localities in the region are expected to cast their votes for president, vice president, 12 senators, and a party-list. "Those who signify for absentee voting are those that are not registered voters in Cebu City. Under the law, voters overseas have at least one month until May 9 to vote for national positions - one president, one vice president, 12 senators, and one party-list representative. Pinoys abroad start to cast votes for polls

In a tweet, the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva showed a picture of Permanent Representatives Evan Garcia and Manuel Teehankee submitting their ballots to kick off overseas voting. The two cast their votes at the Philippine Consulate General in Geneva. The Philippine Embassy in Egypt, meanwhile, has also received its first ballot from an absentee voter and will continue to receive absentee ballots until May 9. Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) - Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV) released on Friday showed there are a total of 1,697,215 registered Filipino voters worldwide. The Filipino voters will be voting in the Philippine posts, embassies, or consulates in the country or territory they reside or work. Overseas voters will be choosing one president, one vice president, 12 senators, and one party-list group. The Middle East and Africa top the list of voters at 786,997, followed by the Asia Pacific with 450,282 voters.
