About the fact she has to live on a $2.13 per hour minimum wage, when some nights she gets a rare tip, some nights are better, some nights are bad. this is a big issue in america and big issue for our economy and it s time to move ahead. how are the labor unions? you know, back when we were growing up, i m older than you, they used to have labor rallies. come out for things like civil rights and showed up in washington by the hundreds of thousands. we have a right-to-life rally. good for them every year. i don t see a rally for minimum wage. where the hell are the unions? you re doing this. where s the noise level, senator? i don t see it. i don t hear it. chris, i think that noise level is just starting. you see the president coming out when are we going to have the unions come to town and make some noise? when are they going to do it? they make noise in my state. richard trumka was coming, he got stopped by a snowstorm unfortunately. he s going to come again on minimum wage ....

I think it won t be a motivator if there s no movement on the hill and we know this is one of the least productive congresses in history. i hope there s movement and does not become a partisan issue but i don t have much hope. it amazes me that servers are sitting at $2.13 for two decades. if that doesn t put us in the dark ages of society, i don t know what does. angela made this point really clear. this is not a partisan issue. the minimum wage used to be an issue in which republicans were on board and understood that raising the wages for americans helps everyone. because one of the problems here is that when we pay such low wages, if you re paying someone who works at walmart minimum wage and they can t afford food and then they need food stamps to supplement their poverty wages, we are subsidizing the low wages that walmart is paying ....

To help. now, you represent millions of workers literally, richard. how do you deal with that kind of opposition in washington? look, right now the american public strongly supports a minimum wage increase. democrats do. independents do. even republicans do. small business does. large business does. the religious community does. the progressive community does. everybody supports it except a couple of small groups. heritage and demint for one. and they re doing the bidding of the koch brothers. and then the hospitality industry. because one thing we didn t talk about yet al is the tip wage. it s $2.13 an hour. it hasn t been increased since 1991. and 77% of the people who get tipped wages are women. it will bring women out of poverty. it will do a lot. well ought to bring it up to the minimum wage so that when people work, everybody gets the same ....
