Council voted not to move forward with the nuisance ordinance, which would penalize landlords whose properties are repeatedly involved in the commission of drug-related offenses, during its Monday, Oct. 19 meeting last year, despite having voted to approve the first two readings of the ordinance.

Submitted photo WEST ALEXANDRIA Village Council voted to increase the police department’s budget and approved pay raises for Fire and EMS department personnel during its final monthly meeting of 2020 on Monday, Dec. 21. Police Chief Tony Gasper addressed council about his department’s proposed 2021 budget during a pair of special meetings held Nov. 19 and Nov. 30. The current planned budget of $220,000 would be a drastic reduction from the department’s 2020 budget of $272,000. Gasper said that such a decrease would compromise his ability to provide 24/7 police coverage.
