Australia aims to be a leading producer and exporter of renewable (“green”) hydrogen by 2030. It is already the world’s largest exporter of coal and the second-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). In response to the climate change challenge, Australia is emulating its own LNG export success in order to position itself for a new role as a major hydrogen producer and exporter.
Before the July 2019 release of Australia’s
National Energy Strategy, the government had already authorized AUD 500 million (USD 355 million) for hydrogen projects. Subsequently, hydrogen was included in the Australian government’s 2020 investment package for new energy technologies (AUD 1.9 billion/USD 1.35 billion). Victorian Government becomes Founding Partner in Zero Carbon Certification Scheme for renewable hydrogen and ammonia

THURSDAY MAY 13, 2021: The Smart Energy Council and Hydrogen Australia today announces the Victorian Government has become a Founding Partner in its Zero Carbon Certification Scheme.
“The Victorian Government is leading the nation in climate action and support for renewables and now it’s become a leader in renewable hydrogen,” said John Grimes,
Chief Executive of the Smart Energy Council.
“The Zero Carbon Certification Scheme is a certificate of origin scheme for renewable hydrogen, renewable ammonia and renewable metals. It’s an absolutely critical step in building the jobs and industries of the future,” said Mr Grimes.
Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio said: “This is exactly what is needed to accelerate renewable hydrogen in Australia. Once again State Governments and businesses are having to fill the climate policy vacuum left by the Federal Government.” ....

Critical to building strong renewable hydrogen and ammonia industries


Another founding partner will be announced on 13 May.
The German Energy Agency (DENA) and the Australian National University are advisers, and Green Hydrogen Catapult is a Partner Initiative for the Zero Carbon Certification Scheme.
The Ammonia Energy Association is a global industry association that promotes the responsible use of ammonia in a sustainable energy economy. The Green Hydrogen Catapult is a global coalition of seven leading renewable hydrogen companies seeking to accelerate the scale and production of green hydrogen 50-fold in the next six years.
