Lisa Pearson during the her head shave by Nick Wright at Pendleside Hospice Lisa (46) who has been at Pendleside for three years, was diagnosed with the blood cancer less than a month ago after being tested for illness since January. And days after she started her chemotherapy she carried out a pledge to have her head shaved and raise money for the hospice. She said: “Once I was told I would need chemotherapy I decided to take control and brave the shave rather than wait to see if my hair fell out. Lisa after the cut I set a target of raising £1,000 and had to quickly revise that to £2,000 because people’s generosity was so overwhelming.

A Pendleside Hospice supporter – who has already raised almost £30,000 for the hospice in memory of his mum who passed away in 2019 – has set about raising another incredible amount. Carl Hodgson, who turns 50 on June 28, is using the milestone to raise thousands of pounds more by launching his Pendle Hill Step Challenge. He started his own personal challenge on March 1 when he committed himself to walking up Pendle every day until his birthday weekend and then on June 26 and 27 he intends to walk 50 laps of Pendle. Carl who lives with his partner Justine and their two children in Fence, has already reached his £5,000 target in sponsorship.
