(AP) Police in Delaware have identified the teen girl who died in a fatal accident involving an all-terrain vehicle in Lewes. The Delaware State News reported Thursday that Margaret Browne, 16, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday. Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police said the ATV was traveling at a high rate of speed when the operator lost control on a private driveway. Four other teenagers were injured and taken to the hospital. The vehicle has two front seats and an open utility bed in the rear.

Cape High students involved in accident April 7, 2021 A 16-year-old girl died April 6 as the result of an ATV crash on a private asphalt driveway off Robinsonville Road near Lewes.  Master Cpl. Heather Pepper, spokeswoman for Delaware State Police, said at 6:47 p.m., the driver of a John Deere Gator, who was not identified, tried to negotiate a left curve at a high rate of speed. The Gator began skidding and overturned off the roadway, striking a tree and coming to rest on its roof, Pepper said.  Five teenage girls ranging in age from 15 to 17 were in the Gator at the time of the crash.

(AP) - The family of a Delaware woman who was fatally shot by police claims the woman was killed after a state trooper fired his gun through a closed door. The Delaware State News reported Tuesday that the family is calling for more investigation into the March 25 incident in Seaford. The family issued a statement through an attorney. It said that Kelly E. Rooks, 51, was in the midst of a mental health crisis when she called 911 for help.

Millsboro man arrested for assault

April 7, 2021 Charles L. Harrigan. DELAWARE STATE POLICE PHOTO A Millsboro man was arrested April 5 after an incident where police said he attacked a 77-year-old man and hit him with a weedeater. Master Cpl. Heather Pepper, spokeswoman for Delaware State Police, said the victim had been feeding geese outside his residence when his neighbor Charles L. Harrigan, 71, began yelling at him. Harrigan then approached the victim and started a fight with him. Harrigan then picked up his weedeater and began hitting the man with it.  Pepper said the man sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment. Harrigan was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree assault, physical injury to a person more than 62 years old, a felony in which a person causes another person bodily harm without the use of a deadly weapon. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and released on his own recognizance.
