Police arrest suspect in connection with attempted abduction in Summit

SUMMIT - Officials said Saturday that swift action on the part of Summit police officers resulted in the thwarting of an attempted abduction over the weekend.
According to acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Summit Police Chief Andrew Bartolotti, Shervon James, 33, of the Vauxhall section of Union Township has been charged with first-degree kidnapping.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, when the 19-year-old victim, a resident of Summit, was walking on Fernwood Road near Whittredge Road. According to the preliminary investigation, she was approached by an individual driving a white four-door sedan. The individual was later identified as James.

As a result of the early good weather, detours and construction for the Main Street overhaul began on Monday, according to Kate Thompson of the Lake Placid-North Elba Community Development Commission, which is helping the village of Lake Placid with public information updates about the project.
