Area blood drives announced The Red Cross has scheduled nearly a dozen blood drives in the area during April, which is National Volunteer Month. As a special thank you, those who donate by April 30 automatically will be entered for a chance to win one of five $1,000 e-gift cards to a merchant of choice. Additional details are available at rcblood.org/Gift.  The Red Cross continues to urge healthy individuals, especially those with type O blood, to give blood to ensure hospitals can meet patient needs. Schedule a donation appointment by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767), or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device. 

Workforce Development initiatives; Hutchinson Regional; KSBDC; triple creek outfitters

Greater Hutch announces new Workforce Development programs Greater Hutch, an Economic Development Partnership for Reno County, is collaborating with Hutchinson Community College and Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy to introduce two new workforce initiatives that will enhance technical educational training opportunities for our local youth. Limited sponsorship opportunities are available for both programs. The first, Signing Day, will take place May 6 at HCTEA. Like athletic signings, the signing day ceremony is designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and emphasize the importance of their career choice. On the day of the event, high school students, parents, instructors, administration, counselors, industry partners, and potential employers will celebrate as students join their peers to commit to their future technical program pathway of choice.

Hospice event to feature trucks, taps and tunes

The Hutchinson City Council approved a permit on Tuesday for a special May 15 event in a corner of Carey Park to raise money for Hospice and Homecare of Reno County. The event, called Trucks, Taps and Tunes, will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and feature more than a half-dozen food trucks, beer and live music. The event will include a roped-off area with limited access south of the city’s Parks Department building where the stage will be set up and alcohol served. Children’s inflatables will be on the north end, with the food trucks lined up on Carey Park Boulevard to the east.
