On Tuesday morning, Comal Independent School District trustees will meet to approve winter weather class waivers as the first students return to Specht Elementary School, flooded by burst water pipes a few weeks ago.
âThe whole front office was flooded along with several classrooms,â Steve Stanford, the districtâs communications director said  of the damage at the school, which will welcome back kindergartners and first-grade students. âWe were able to mitigate damages enough to bring some of those young kids back on Tuesday.â
Comal ISDâs School Operations group posted photographs from Specht Elementary School on Twitter over the weekend. Water lines in the ceiling burst as part of last weekâs winter storm.
Both districts were closed on Monday.
âWe appreciate your patience with us as we continued to repair and clean issues at campuses today,â NBISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba said in a letter to parents Monday afternoon. âOverall, we had leaks at six of our 15 campuses and we continued to find new leaks today. Some classrooms had to be totally relocated to different rooms.â
New Braunfels Utilities lifted its boil water notice Sunday, but New Braunfels Middle School is on Green Valley Water System which is still under one, the district said.
For Comal ISD, Specht Elementary School is the only campus out of operation.
