Sex Differences in Osteomyelitis of the Foot in Persons With Diabetes Mellitus: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract BACKGROUND: Osteomyelitis of the foot is a risk factor for amputation in persons with diabetes mellitus. There is some evidence to suggest that patient sex affects the risk of diabetes-related foot complications. PURPOSE: To examine the effect of sex on osteomyelitis risk in patients with diabetic foot disease. METHODS: Systematic searches of PubMed and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure were performed from inception through May 2020 using the terms “diabetic foot” and “osteomyelitis.” Original research studies including persons with diabetes mellitus, diabetic foot disease, or ulcers as well as reports of osteomyelitis were included. Study quality was assessed according to the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for osteomyelitis were calculated by sex.

Even though there is a strong recognition of public health importance about COVID-19 by the Ethiopian government, there is still a need to emphasize community awareness creation and practice to stop the nationwide spread of the virus. So far, in Ethiopia, different studies have been done on the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice about COVID-19 preventive measures among the public. These levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice of the population ranged from 20% to 90.3%. 10,11,15–23 Therefore, the findings of these different studies show that there is a high variability in the prevalence of the knowledge, attitude, and practice across the regions of the country.
