Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee Controversy [SOUTHCOAST VOICES] THIS GUEST OPINION PIECE BY: Jessica Machado is a freelance writer and former contributor to the Fall River Herald News. She is also a former radio host at WSAR and political blogger.
This past weekend, I sat down with Dighton-Rehoboth school committee member Katie Ferreira-Aubin, who has been facing criticism from fellow committee members for a social media post on her personal TikTok account where she likened the current vaccine mandates to events reminiscent of government actions during the Holocaust. Her views on freedom of not only speech but of a parent’s choice over vaccination of their children is one that myself and fellow moms in my community of Somerset share. I am aware these feelings are not shared by all, but my work for conservative candidates as well as the recent Trump presidential campaign have shown me that there are many people in Bristol County who share these pas ....

April 21, 2021 The Fall River Police Department Facebook page shared a screenshot Wednesday of a tweet criticizing George Floyd, the Black man who was killed last May after ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for over nine minutes. Chauvin, who is white, was found guilty on three charges of murder and manslaughter Tuesday. “Chauvin immediately stood and calmly placed his hands behind his back. Imagine where we’d be had George done the same,” the tweet read, according to The Fall River Herald News. The post was soon deleted from the department’s Facebook page. Chief Jeffrey Cardoza said the department will investigate the incident and “possibly” give disciplinary action. He said the person who shared the post meant to post it on his personal page. The unidentified officer is one of a few who can access the department’s Facebook page, the chief said. ....

Perhaps in anticipation of tomorrow s anticipated snow storm, Somerset s online news publication, The Somerset Sentinel, posted a story yesterday about the Somerset Parks and Playground Commission s decision to break tradition and not turn the lights on at the popular sledding hill at Pierce Beach. In the article, it states that Parks Director Barry Fontaine said the decision was to limit crowds at the park in the evening, although the park would be open to sledders during the day. ....
