IONIA A company plans to renovate a vacant building in downtown Ionia, allowing for apartments and commercial space.
The Ionia City Council approved an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Exemption Certificate and Brownfield Plan for 340 W. Main St. downtown at its July 6 meeting.
WB Vacation Home Properties, LLC of Haslett is looking to invest roughly $780,000 into the 5,200 square-foot building.
Records show the structure was built in 1890, and it is believed to be the first stand-alone Hudson’s store in the Midwest. The building, recognizable by its sandstone exterior, also previously housed the G.W. French Music Store.
