Texas lawmakers are considering a bill that would change the state’s child abuse law and make gender-affirming care illegal for minors. Senate Bill 1646, filed by State Sen. Charles Perry, would make it a crime for parents to allow their transgender children to undergo a sex change.
According to the bill, children would not be allowed to receive puberty suppression prescription drugs, cross-sex hormones or medical procedures or surgeries that would assist in a gender transition or reassignment. There would be an exception for a child who is born intersex to receive medical treatment.
State lawmakers are working to make it harder for schools to issue mask mandates.They’re considering a bill to do just that. It would require studies proving masks work, and could allow mandates to be canceled. The bill is one of many this session related to the pandemic. It includes a section requiring notification about certain vaccine exemptions, but there’s also the change to how school districts issue mask mandates.Senate Bill 658 would require school districts to show three relevant studies showing masks work in order to put a mandate in place. The bill passed the House Public Health Committee 9-1 this week after extensive questioning. “How do you determine what is three relevant studies? Who makes that determination of what is three relevant studies,” asked Rep. Carl Newton, R-Cherokee. Replied Rep. Is Texas Ready To Legalize Marijuana In 2021?
In a recent report, Texas has taken action in creating a bill that would decriminalize marijuana possession in the state. As well there would be an additional proposal to lessen the punishment for possessing cannabis concentrates. Both of these proposals came out of the key House committee this past week. This news is the most current advancements that have happened. Which has come after a week where state lawmakers in Texas have thought about various forms of cannabis reform bills.
However notably the most important piece of marijuana legislation to move out of committee would allow for the possession of 28 grams or an ounce of cannabis to be a class C misdemeanor. This would carry a thin line but no severe worry of going to jail. Yet the entire House of Representatives passed a cannabis decriminalization bill in 2019. Virginia Legalizes Marijuana. With a tie-breaking vote by Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D), the state Senate on Wednesday gave final approval to Senate Bill 1406, which legalizes marijuana in the state. The legislature also approved amendments by Gov. Ralph Northam (D) that included moving up the date of the legalization of pot possession from 2024 to this coming July. Virginia now becomes the 16th state to have legalized marijuana (New Mexico has passed a bill but it has not been signed into law yet.)
