As chair of the Alabama House Rules Committee, state Rep. Mike Jones, R-Andalusia, has allowed a vote on making the sweet potato the state vegetable but has slow-walked a bill on medical marijuana.

Let’s get this part out of the way. I’ve smoked pot before, although it has been a while. I learned three things.
First, I didn’t really like it. It made me giggle for a bit and music sounded more interesting, but mostly I would get impatient waiting for it to wear off.
House lawmakers plan to vote Wednesday afternoon on proposed joint rules for this legislative session, following a noontime Democratic caucus teleconference.
Speaker Ronald Mariano announced last month that representatives would debate the House rules in July, following a review led by Rules Committee Chairman Rep. William Galvin. The joint rules, once agreed upon and adopted by both branches, will govern the House-Senate operations for the 2021-2022 term and officially establish the joint committee structure.

The ranking Republican member of the House Rules Committee, Tom Cole, put it this way.
“I find Congresswoman Greene’s comments deeply offensive – using vile, anti-Semitic slurs, degrading those with special needs, endorsing violence against political leaders, and further victimizing those who have suffered unimaginable trauma is absolutely repugnant and unbecoming of any member of Congress.”
