Wasatch Resource Recovery is accepting small volumes of residential food waste under 15 gallons per trip from Utahns. Acceptable items include fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products and bread.
The food scraps can be dropped off for free just inside the facility gates at 1370 W. Center St., North Salt Lake.
Utah’s first anaerobic food digester revved up two years ago. Since then, this giant beast has been taking food waste from grocery stores, restaurants and other commercial food operations. (As well as 275 cases of beer from state liquor stores in 2019.)

GOLETA, Calif. A two-year project near Gaviota is almost complete. When finished Santa Barbara County’s ReSource Center will be able to recycle 85% more waste. It will also reuse emitted gas as fuel.
The facility will sort trash, recycling and green waste from Summerland to parts of the Santa Ynez Valley. Then sell back recyclables to companies across the United States.
The plant’s goal is to salvage and rescue recyclables before they go to the landfill. The resource workers’ goals are to help the plant achieve its goal and encourage the community to reduce using products that produce waste. And rather choose to use products they can reuse.

Helping those still needing emergency assistance due to winter storm
Volunteers and the Austin Disaster Relief Network are meeting to try to help some families and people who still need help. Stephen Brewer, Associate Director of ADRN, has details.

Residents that are still without water at an apartment, condominium, or multifamily complexes are encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report the outage so Austin Code can work with property management to ensure repairs are made.
