People encouraged to enjoy local walking routes, including Four Pubs and a Sewage Works trail

MAY is National Walking Month and Bradford Council is encouraging people to enjoy the health benefits of walking at the same time as exploring the district’s great scenery. Many people have taken up walking during the pandemic and with the longer days and better weather, this interest is likely to continue. The Council’s website has a number of downloadable self-guided walks. These take in beauty spots across the district. These include moorlands, canal towpaths, woodland and for something a little different, a ‘Fungus Foray’ at Raw Nook Nature Reserve or ‘Four Pubs and a Sewage Works’ from Apperley Bridge.

THERE are a whole host of virtual events taking place next week for children to enjoy during half-term on lockdown. Youngsters can explore the city and its museums virtually and there are a number of online Yorkshire Games Festival events taking place. As well as online events, there is of course local parks, stunning Bradford countryside and a wide range of fun physical activities families can do at home to have fun and pass the time during the holiday. The Yorkshire Games Festival, hosted by the National Science and Media Museum, is running a handful of online events next week during half-term.

Chance to add to a sparkling district gallery

PEOPLE across the district are being invited to share their photos of favourite spots that have helped the area ‘sparkle’ during the winter lockdown. The initiative is part of the Sparkling Bradford campaign, delivered by organisations including Bradford Council and Visit Bradford. Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said: “Whether it’s a green space you never knew existed at the bottom of your road, your new home-schooling work station, or a restaurant or shop offering online deliveries that have been a lifeline or helped lift your spirits – we’d love to see your photos of who or what is helping keep Bradford district sparkling over these winter months.”
