The Lexington Herald Leader is reporting a potentially important piece of evidence in the case against State Representative Robert Goforth is missing. Rep. Goforth, a Republican from East Bernstadt, is accused of strangling his wife, according to attorneys. The missing piece of evidence is a digital recording of police interviewing the wife of Rep. Goforth, Ashley Goforth. In it Ashley Goforth told police her husband tried to “hog tie” her during an argument and then wrapped a computer cable around her neck leading to her not be able to breath. Defense attorneys asked a judge to either suppress the statement from Ashley Goforth or, if the tape isn’t found and the case goes to a jury, to tell jurors that if the recording had been available it would have been favorable to Robert Goforth’s defense. Area health departments released updated coronavirus numbers Thursday. The Laurel County Health Department reported 72 new cases. The Knox County Health Department reported 25 new cases. The Whitley County Health Department reported one new death bringing the death toll to 24. The county also has 13 new cases. The Cumberland Valley District Health Department reported three new cases in Clay County. Jackson County has 8 new cases and Rockcastle County 2 in the community and 3 new cases at Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting Deputy Justin Taylor and Shift Sgt. John Inman were called out to assist Deputy Landry Collett. Deputy Collett had pulled over a vehicle which had failed to signal at a business parking lot off KY 312. During the stop the driver, Robert Havens, Jr exhibited suspicious behavior. Deputies discovered Havens had suspected methamphetamine, digital scales and pills. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and prescription controlled substances not in proper container. Havens was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
