VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Bellevue University shot 74 percent in the second half Friday night, outscoring Valley City State 50-38 over the final 20 minutes en route to an 89-77 men’s basketball victory.
The two teams entered the night tied for second place in the North Star Athletic Association standings, and were tied 39-39 at halftime. The second half belonged to the Bruins though as they created easy shots and outscored the Vikings by 12 points down the stretch.
Valley City State drops to 16-6 overall and 7-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. Bellevue University improves to 16-12 overall and 8-4 in the NSAA. The Bruins move into sole possession of second place in the NSAA standings, remaining one game back of conference leader Mayville State.

The Vikings forced 18 turnovers in the first half, leading to 19 points off turnovers and a 42-23 lead at the break. The Saints would get no closer than 13 points in the second half. The Vikings finished the game scoring 41 of their points off Presentation College’s 29 turnovers.
Valley City State improves to 14-4 overall and 5-3 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Saints drop to 3-18 overall and 0-8 in the NSAA.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Connor Entzi drew four offensive fouls and poured in a game-high 18 points Friday night as the Valley City State men’s basketball team defeated Waldorf University, 74-61.
Entzi drew four charges – all in the first half – to fuel a strong Viking defensive performance in the first half. VCSU trailed 11-0 early, but stepped up their defense which in turn fueled the offense. The Vikings forced Waldorf into 18 first-half turnovers and came storming back to take a 36-24 lead at the break.
“Our defense is what carried us through that slow start,” said head coach Ryan Montgomery. “We got them sped up, forced them into some turnovers and they went dry for a little bit. Our defense really carried us in the first half.”

Dani Schwanke‘s 18 first-half points paced the Vikings to a 49-26 lead at halftime. She went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and 5-for-5 on three-pointers through the first 20 minutes of play, finishing with 22 points off the Viking bench.
Adriana Torres (14), Maara Nelson (12), and Allie Critchley (11) also scored in double figures Friday. Emma Nielsen dished out a team-high six assists, and Taryn Dieterle led the defensive effort with four steals.
