Indigenous artists asked to decorate B.C. Bus North vehicles in new contest SHARE ON: Northern Indigenous Arts Council / Twitter A group of Indigenous artists in Prince George wants to build connections between northern Indigenous communities using transit. The Northern Indigenous Arts Council is working with Diversified Transportation Ltd to select artwork from Indigenous artists affiliated with regional communities serviced by BC Bus North. The artwork will adorn the four buses providing service between Prince Rupert and Prince George, Prince George and Valemount, Prince George and Fort St. John, and Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek. “NIAC sees this as an opportunity for local Indigenous artists to bring their artwork to the people of the North without them leaving their communities”. It is not often that artists can apply their work to an outdoor traveling “venue” that covers such a big geographic area,” said Diane Levesque, President, Northern Indigenous Arts Council

Regional arts councils accepted into national program

Including matching funds the impact sits at $32.2 million to Canada s cultural economy. “NIAC is honoured to be a part of the artsvest mentorship training program,” Diane Levesque, NIAC president, said. “Having access to a wide spectrum of development and fundraising resources will enable us to develop lasting community relationships that will assist us in years to come, not only with sponsorships, but getting to know our community on a much larger scale.” Having both the regional arts councils accepted into the program shows artsvest recognizes the progress made in developing the North Central sector of the province, Linda Rempel, CAC president, said.

BC Northern Indigenous Artists call for submissions

Any art form is welcome as long as it can be transformed to large scale digital images. “NIAC sees this as an opportunity for local indigenous artists to bring their artwork to the people of the North without them leaving their communities,” Diane Levesque, president, Northern Indigenous Arts Council, said. It is not often that artists can apply their work to an outdoor travelling venue that covers such a big geographic area. With so many galleries closed, this is the right time to undertake this initiative. The adorned buses will travel between Prince Rupert and Prince George, Prince George and Valemount, Prince George and Fort St. John and Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek.
