Letterkenny s Market Square is to be named in honour of the late Barney Doherty, founding member and former Director of Highland Radio.
The motion was put forward at yesterday s meeting of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District by Cathaoirleach Councillor Donal Coyle, that the naming be unveiled upon completion of the regeneration of the Market Square.
Mr Doherty was also the former Director of the Letterkenny International Folk Festival.

Donegal County Council is being asked to draw up a list of available emergency accommodation in Letterkenny, and an assessment of the likely need for such accomodation into the future.
The issue was raised by Cllr Gerry McMonagle, at the latest sitting of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District, he fears the problem is going to get worse in the coming months, with a pressing need for the council to prepare.
Cllr McMonagle says the local authority should seek funding for the provision of an Emergency Accommodation unit:
The Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District has issued an appeal for information following an incident of criminal damage at Ballymacool Park in Letterkenny over the weekend.
An area of the park was set on fire at around 8:20pm on Saturday evening with damage caused to fencing and surrounding vegetation and hedges as a result.
No arrests have been made but Gardai say investigations are ongoing.

An â¬18.1 million Urban Regeneration Project has been confirmed for Letterkenny.
The project is set to include a revamp of the Market Square and Cathedral Quarter area to include a new tourism centre as well as renewal works on Lower Main Street and the revival of the Old Courthouse into an enterprise centre and a transport hub for the town centre.
13.6 million euro will be funded by the Government and 4.5 million by Donegal County Council.

The Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny Milford Municipal District has expressed frustration after yet another water outage in the Rosbracken area of Manorcunningham today.
The burst is affecting a significant amount of properties with Irish Water crews currently carrying out repair works.
Water is expected to be restored to all by lunchtime.
But the area has been susceptible to numerous outages of late, with as many calls from local representatives for a total upgrade to the supply there.
