Former Gov Edwin Edwards legacy still visible in Terrebonne and Lafourche

Terrebonne and Lafourche officials said former Gov. Edwin Edwards was a charismatic and larger-than-life populist who went above and beyond for Louisiana s working people.   Edwards died Monday at the age of 93. The four-term governor served from 1972 through 1980, 1984-88 and 1992-96.  Former state Sen. Norby Chabert of Houma, who is Edwards’ godson, described the late governor as a complex but passionate statesman.  “Edwin s legacy will always be a complicated one, but what can t be denied is that he loved Louisiana, he loved its people and he worked hard on behalf of the poor and forgotten people of our state,” Chabert said. “He always believed Louisiana s best days were ahead of her. He believed that into his very last days.”
