First AI-based tool for predicting genomic subtypes of pancreatic cancer from histology slides

 E-Mail
Paris, France and New York, NY June 10, 2021 - AP-HP Greater Paris University Hospitals, the leading European clinical trial center with the largest amount of healthcare data in France dedicated to research and Owkin, a startup pioneering Federated Learning and AI technologies for medical research and clinical development, announced the recent results of their ongoing strategic collaboration at ASCO 2021. The abstract and poster entitled Identification of pancreatic adenocarcinoma molecular subtypes on histology slides using deep learning models demonstrates the first AI-based
tool for predicting genomic subtypes of pancreatic cancer (PDAC) developed from machine learning applied to histology slides. The tool, a trained and validated AI model, is usable in clinical practice worldwide and opens the possibility of patient molecular stratification in routine care and for clinical ....

Red meat intake, poor education linked to colorectal cancer

A new paper in
JNCI Cancer Spectrum, published by Oxford University Press, indicates that several non-genetic factors including greater red meat intake, lower educational attainment, and heavier alcohol use are associated with an increase in colorectal cancer in people under 50.
In the United States, incidence rates of early-onset colorectal cancer have nearly doubled between 1992 and 2013 (from 8.6 to 13.1 per 100,000), with most of this increase due to early-onset cancers of the rectum. Approximately 1 in 10 diagnoses of colorectal cancer in this country occur in people under 50.
Researchers have observed the rise particularly among people born since the 1960s in studies from the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan. During the same period there have been major changes in diets among younger generations across the developing world. Such changes include decreases in consumption of fruits, non-potato vegetables, and calcium-rich dairy sources. This is coupled w ....

CÔTE D AZUR & PROVENCE
La Ligue Contre le Cancer is appealing for donations after a year of Covid-dominated health care. The local organisation that supplies hospitals and supports families with cancer is struggling after an alarming drop in donations this year. 2020 has been a trying year for everyone, but especially sick people, experiencing delays in treatments, lack of funding and increased risk due to immune compromisation.
For La Ligue Contre le Cancer, everyone s donations are precious to enable them to continue to help families here in 06, to support them as best as possible, to defend their rights with the public authorities and to advance research. ....
