The planters ‘INCREDIBLY divisive’ road closures as part of a low-traffic network scheme in Trafford are causing a rift in a local community. Residents are now worried that the controversial scheme being trialled in Longford could cause trouble if it’s not resolved soon. During the first lockdown in 2020, Trafford Council installed large wooden planters at the end of Hillingdon Road, Norwood Road and Cromwell Road in Longford, close to the park. The scheme was installed in a hurry to make use of government funding that was ringfenced for use specifically on programmes like these, and was designed to shut the roads off from rat runners who had been cutting through to Kings Road for decades.
