Over 200 bikes stolen in Galway last year
Almost 7,000 bikes have been reported stolen since January 2020.
Gardaí have released figures this morning, which show that more than 1,000 bicycles have been taken since the start of this year, while over 5,600 were stolen in 2020.
Last year saw over 200 bikes being stolen in Galway, 15 in the Mayo Garda division, 21 in Roscommon / Longford and 26 in Sligo / Leitrim.
Gardai are launching a new campaign called Lock it or lose it -with advice to cyclists to help keep their property safe, including spending up to 20 percent the value of the bike on two locks, and locking it indoors or in a well-lit area.
According to data, published on Friday evening, members of An Garda Siochána in the Roscommon / Longford division, have to-date issued a total of 515 Fix.

There has been a sharp decline in the number of children and adolescents committing rape, although overall crime rates by juvenile offenders are on the rise.
New figures compiled for the Garda Youth Diversion Programme show underage offenders were identified as the assailant in 115 out of 830 incidents of rape reported in 2019 – almost 1 in 7 cases.

The Roscommon/Longford garda division is asking members of the public to nominate young people for the Garda Youth Awards before the end of this month.
The awards celebrate outstanding young people between the ages of 13 and 21 who are making a positive contribution to their local community.
