Gov. Greg Abbott on March 2 ended Texas statewide mask mandate and announced an executive order to allow all businesses to reopen at full capacity, making it the largest state to no longer require one of the most effective ways to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Abbott announced the executive order, which will take effect on March 10, while citing declining hospitalizations and increasing vaccinations across the state.
“Now, Texans have mastered the daily habits to avoid getting COVID,” Abbott said at Montelongo’s Mexican restaurant in Lubbock in a room of unmasked audience members. “People and businesses don’t need the state telling them how to operate.”
Former Congressman Joins Angelo State University Foundation
SAN ANGELO, TX – Former U.S. Congressman Mike Conaway has joined the Board of Trustees for the Angelo State University Foundation, a public, nonprofit organization established to provide financial assistance to ASU, primarily through gifts and earnings on endowed funds.
Conaway represented the 11
th Congressional District of Texas, which includes San Angelo, Midland and Odessa, from 2005 through 2021 and recently stepped down following his eighth term in office. He directly served the interests of San Angelo and West Texas on various congressional bodies, including the House Agriculture Committee, Armed Services Committee, Intelligence Committee, International Conservation Caucus and Reliable Energy Caucus.
